Poem says take the canyon down, then just take the canyon down.
End drawing nigh, then the journey is near the end (NOT GO LEFT or whatever)

So, tarry scant with marvel gaze = Fenn's secret has one hell of a view

I recommend you (1)learn the poem and (2)get a dictionary

view". I have seen some pretty impressive sunsets, lightning bolts, paintings, sculptures, and man-made structures (such as the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada). But I didn't "marvel" at the sight of any of them.

What do you think is the "hell of a view" associated with Fenn's secret?

Well, Hell's Half Acre might qualify, but someone doesn't think that it is in the Rocky Mountains. I wonder.

RE: But tarry scant with marvel gaze
hells half acre is mentioned by Fenn for the following...
Half
Acre
and hells half acre is somewhat analogous to the place

Again Fenns stone story...just a stone to us but meaningful to him. Ask not what you consider marvelous but what a child finds marvelous

There's also Colter's Hell just west of Cody. It was visited by Joseph Meek.

1) Yes, it's very important we all know the objective of the chase: to learn the poem. Many have been getting sidetracked with other ideas and claims that they forget (or ignore) what we should all be doing. Since the chest hasn't been found (Fenn says) nobody has yet learned the poem

2) I'd be very cautious with a dictionary. We know Fenn uses them (from previous qoutes), but we don't know if he used one for the poem. We do know he likes to use his own definition of words so this is why I say be cautious about it. I think a Thesaurus would be more useful as it's clear one was used in order to turn a rhythm in the poem.

Andrew
You are making one of the top searcher mistakes.
You are relating the poem to your own experience than that of the writer.
You may not marvel the site of mountains, but that's you.
Since we're unsure at what the writer marvels at we can't discount anything, nor can I speak for what is "one hell of a view" in the perspective of Fenn.

Let me ask everyone this.
Do you think Fenn would want to die in a swamp?
In the middle of a desert?
My dad would love to be buried on a hill with an oak tree like the ending of Unforgiven. That's his fantasy of where he'd like to rest.
What kind of place would Fenn fantasize about resting?
My theory is he would want his last sight to be looking at something peaceful, marvelous, spiritual, etc.

Filmguy,

Solid logic for sure, I like your focus but what if something was situated nigh the end of your journey? something to serve as a confirmation, before looking down.

Example?

I always thought "drawing" was more important in that sentence than nigh (as this is obviously used to rhythm with high)

Example??................hmm......" the drawing of water" brings to mind several scenarios, weather they be physically near the end of ones search or finally coming to an end after ever.
