So it's up to 3 million now? Amazing how it keeps growing, in spite of the price of gold being well below where it was a few years ago.

I think that it might be the idea of the treasure as a collectors item than the weight of gold. Like the 10 million dollars in coins that was found, only had a face value of 20 or 30 thousand I believe.

Yes, the face value of gold coins is usually only a fraction of their real value. About a year ago I added up the likely value of all the gold items in the chest according to Forrest's description of the contents (I have dealt in rare coins and gold nuggets in the past). I also made semi-educated guesses for the value of the jewelry and the chest itself. I came up with best-case fair resale value of around $750,000, but allowed that the notoriety the treasure has gained could easily push the price to be had at auction somewhere over 1 million if sold as a complete lot. I doubt it would bring anywhere near 3 million. You never know though.
