I like the line that says:

While he worked, Kit Carson and one of the others busied themselves carving a cross on the bare rock.

Yep, definitely very cool. On an earlier carved cross it said they put some kind of pitch or resin to try and keep the carving better preserved. It would be a blast to see that cross on Fremont Island.

You hear often from searchers that the hints only help confirm the clue after you have deciphered whichever clue that hint helps. I still don't understand this theory. Yeah, I can see it play out that way but can't see how that's the only way.

I've said before that I think the few hints work with each other to help identify the correct starting area then it's a more straightforward process to pick the correct wwwh. There's a few things to ponder about this.

If the hints help with later clues in the poem, then when f states (paraphrasing) if you don't find the treasure go back to the first clue would be strange. He doesn't ever say go back to clue 2-8 because there's a hint attached to one of the clues there that'll help you. I don't know if others have thought through that.

It's the same thing when f says (paraphrasing) you've got to nail down the first clue. We know there are many wwwh to nail down the correct one from. This means that he's got something that helps identify the correct wwwh and that's from a hint or hints.

Remember that statement in ttotc by F saying he tends to exaggerate? What if that's a hint? That could be a scary hint if it applies to the value of the chest or what's in it.

We will have to stay away from scary hints then. Smile

Nice try. When others start first with a question or concern the one they are talking to gets to reply. Simple
