Burning Maps?
Why would anyone want to burn one of F’s old, possibly valuable or historical, maps for 50 “yes votes” on a FB page?

Why would anyone want to burn one of his books?

The book is a little different than a possibly hard to find, valuable, or historic map.

I'm not taking sides on this one - but you can get any one of those maps at the USGS office located on the grounds of the Federal Center in Lakewood, CO. I worked for a time at the PO right next to it, and I would get topo maps of my desired hunting areas on my lunch breaks whenever I wanted to. Face value. Of course they were never owned or marked upon by Forrest Fenn, but still...

What would be the purpose of burning one?

I suppose it’s a popularity contest these days.

Howdy, Mister.

I don't think you have to go anywhere to get them. I might be wrong but I think pretty much every USGS map ever printed can be found somewhere on line. You have to print them on 8 1/2 x 11 paper (if you don't have access to a bigger printer) but they can be obtained for free.

Burning Maps?
But why would someone want to PROMOTE the burning of one? Why would anyone do that?

“If I (the person who wants to burn a map) can get fifty people to say yes, I’ll burn the map!”

WTH is the purpose?

Is it attention, a test to find out who the arsonists are among the 7%, or what? Their idea of fun? Not my idea of fun, but whatever floats their boat, I spose.

It means you will have found WWWH and all the rest...

Ummm. Let's be friends and drink margaritas then. Most USGS quads have 32s on them as the public lands are all displayed using the PLSS townships which generally have 36 sections numbered 1-36. You gonna buy the first round?
