What is funny about comments like yours and confirmation bias is that someone is right. Someone has solved the clues. The correct solution, too, will present itself as confirmation bias.

If Forrest’s book is nothing but awe-shucks stories, why did he need to change Old Fred’s name to Frosty.

Please don’t say because of the freezer; Forrest was fired in the dessert section.

He didn't need to change the name to Frosty. He just did to help create the hint.

What's in that specific freezer?

That's what I'd have said as well.

In case others haven't seen this,

https://dalneitzel.com/2017/07/05/totem-...ent-280881

The article at the top of that page is also interesting.

His real name was Ole Konrad Iversen Tornes and he was born in Norway. Americanized, he was Conrad Tornes. I don't know why, or even suspect why, Forrest refers to him in the article as "Old Fred".

Thanks for the info!

"Old" for "Ole"?

I have always thought it interesting that some of the pre-TTOTC articles were about West Yellowstone or Yellowstone, and were later incorporated into TTOTC. This always seemed like it pointed towards Yellowstone or the Hebgen Lake area as likely places for hiding the chest, and somewhat disproved the New Mexico "purist" theories. This is under the assumption (which may be wrong) that he was going to use these articles, plus "My War For Me" (also published elsewhere on the internet prior to TTOTC), plus future articles, as treasure hunt "tools" before he decided to go ahead and publish them in a book.

I’ve got nothing for meat. How does meat explain why Forrest changed Old Fred to Frosty.

RE: Why Frosty?
DT says pie = foot, foot=ruler, ruler and foot = 12. Look at his foot, laces, recent Gets Mail (XX), running man figure has only one foot (the one we were to find on a map). When you find the Running Man there will be no mistaking it!! No imagination needed to see it. Not 1 person out of 20 failed to name it when shown. Frostys ear - hear me worth cold, see his knot, upside down also. look at f's knee upside down (I wont say where this is). Fritoes- bear claws, Jenny "Game is afoot", zebra boots, botg, to walk, on and on I could go. Heel is hide, hidden heeled, healed, hilled

Well, part of that is part of it. Still no explanation for Frosty.

RE: Why Frosty?
I don't know why Forrest used Old Fred at one point. Maybe because it was for a localized West Yellowstone newspaper article, Forrest was concerned that using his "real" nickname of "Frosty" was too specific and perhaps derogatory to his memory. So he used Fred, instead. But substituted "Old" for "Ole" as a private joke.

However, I have used Frosty as a key hint in at least one solve, so maybe Forrest returned to the "real" nickname to add a hint to a book that was going to be published in New Mexico, mostly for New Mexico readers. Just speculating, of course.
