RE: Why Frosty?
"Conrad enlists in the army in July 1942. He works in the Signal corps (military communications) in the American Airforce, and is stationed in Iceland. He returns to the US on Aug 31 in 1945." --David Moen 7/2017 dalneitzel. c o m
"In the summer of 1942, when I was twelve, I found myself selling newspapers, the Montana Standard and the Billings Gazette, on the streets of West Yellowstone. That was many years before any streets were paved, and the deep potholes on Canyon were often filled with water and fair game for every car that sped by. I think they competed to see which could splash water the furthest. Anyway, the good news was that I made a penny for each paper I sold, although the bag my eighty pound body had to carry was so heavy I struggled with every step. One morning my boss drove by and saw me sitting on the curb in front of Scaggs Grocery Store. He rolled his window down and yelled, “You're canned.” That's all! Of course I didn't know what that meant but guessed it must be something good because I was so proud of my job. When my mother told me I had been fired I was devastated. No matter. I soon got the dream job of being the only dishwasher at the Totem Café."--Forrest Fenn 2/2008 WestYellowstoneNews. c o m "Conrad and Ramona ran the Totem Café in West Yellowstone, at least from 1949-1967. During his time in West Yellowstone, Conrad was known under the nickname “Frosty”." --David Moen 7/2017 dalneitzel. c o m "When my Yellowstone summers were over I was a nineteen-year-old lank without discipline, focus or cause." -- Forrest Fenn 2010 The Thrill of the Chase Forrest has an impeccable memory to this day. So, to believe that he worked for "Frosty" implies that Forrest is mistaken about when he worked there. The only possible summer that the two stories align is the summer of 1949 when Forrest would have been 18. Frosty would not have managed the Totem in June 1942 and then gone to Iceland for three years and then come back mess around for three or four years and then manage the Totem again. I mean, c'mon, Beavertooth, you easily debunked my connection with Pandora's Box as not a religious nod, give me something here. Are we researching stuff or not? What does the word several mean?! Definition of several (Entry 1 of 2) 1a : separate or distinct from one another federal union of the several states b(1) : individually owned or controlled : EXCLUSIVE a several fishery — compare COMMON (2) : of or relating separately to each individual involved a several judgment c : being separate and distinctive : RESPECTIVE specialists in their several fields On Meriam-Webster you have to look at entry two for the definition that Forrest highlighted. |

RE: Why Frosty?
Why Frosty? Ask anyone, a child who is Frosty and the answer will be Frosty the snowman. A snowman in Fenn's poker analogy is an 8. 8th clue worth the cold (frosty)?
What else about Frosy? what did he drive? How did he react to Firing Forrest - Forrest Fire. Think... |

RE: Why Frosty?
Yeah, that's good. Frosty was a snowman. A snowman is slang for the 8 card.

RE: Why Frosty?
@ CF, i want to tell you that was impressive research you have done
******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
and very well presented your right on the money with it,you explained it very well and shared with everyone on cc and the others who troll this site, and you did not have to and i will add there may be more to that chapter than what you shared and maybe you know this ,but remember your gonna get negative response from post like yours ,why ? because humans would rather hear a lie than the truth but not me ,i will pull the religion card out now, since Adam and Eve most people would rather believe a lie than the truth ,in other words people would rather have there ears tickled than to hear the truth,,,, |

Why Frosty?
Thanks pidmt. Searchers don’t want to believe there are understories, for what ever reason, but there are.
Should I spill the beans...let the cat outta the bag...or should I zip it...clam up. ![]() |

I mean, c'mon, Beavertooth, you easily debunked my connection with Pandora's Box as not a religious nod, give me something here. Are we researching stuff or not? What does the word several mean?! Wow! I guess we both leap to conclusions. I assumed that someone who worked as a cook in Butte, Montana in 1939/1940 could easily have been running the Totem Cafe (or at least the kitchen and dishwashers) in June/July 1942, which you assume didn't happen. Or why couldn't he have returned there after the war in 1945 and been the boss when Forrest was 15, 16, or 17? Just because the author of the article does not know where he was in those years prior to 1949 doesn't mean he was somewhere else, which you assume. It was very common for returning soldiers to take back their old jobs when they returned home from the war (often "bumping" women out of the jobs). Yes, Forrest would not have been 12 at the time, but we already know that a multi-year shift in ages is common in Forrest's writings (Eric Sloane, for example), and is what I consider a hint in the book. So I guess our assumptions have made an ass of you and me both -- which probably would bring a smile to Forrest's face. ![]() As to the definition of "several", I think you are on to something there. I have previously posted that I think Forrest uses secondary definitions for words. |
