If a searcher finds a small specific place that looks like it fits all the poem's
clues, hints, etc. EXACTLY but the trove isn't there, should the searcher
feel like his/her solve has been proven to be good (but that the searcher
was a little late getting to that spot)?

This kind of thing has happened before, and been posted/discussed.

Lack of the TC being there does not constitute PROOF that the TC was ever there.

Like Beavertooth said/implied, you can interpret the experience any way you want. But until there is
substantial evidence of a find, it's probably more reasonable not to assume the TC was ever where it
might kinda/sorta "appear" -- in someone's mind -- to have been.
