The answer to Forrest’s rhetorical question...
...how deep is a hole?

It is all the way down to the bottom.

How deep is a hole? The whole way down to the bottom. The deepest man made hole in the world was dug by the Russians to a depth of 40,230 feet – half way to the earth’s mantle. They stopped when the temperature reached 356 degrees Fahrenheit.

So, our theory is that when you find the back door, warm air blowing the smell of pies, you need to find the bottom of the hole.

As I have gone alone in there.

Are we talking fishing holes, swimming holes, hidey holes, rabbit holes, mudholes, or potholes? It makes a difference.

.
If I recall Forrest made that comment when someone asked him a question about if any searcher is close or how long the chase will last or something like that. His answer was meant to convey that he didn’t have enough information to give a specific answer.

“Thats like asking me how deep is a hole or how long is a rope”.

I couldnt find any hidden references or hints.

The hole could just be 6 inches deep
Just enough to cover the box.

I agree, but he also said that “autobiographers always lean toward the subject.”
