poem from braveandinthewood
this poem used to be on a site called several years ago

North South East West
Do you know which direction is the best
Not everything you learned in school is exact
Columbus was taught the Earth was quite flat

I reserve the right to be wrong at times
As do the people before who have explored in their prime
But all is sometimes not as it seems
Direction is relative and truths are merely dreams

In history variations in directional North exist
Not everyone can find their way through the mist
Spaniards once called the Atlantic the North Sea,
And Wetherill maps often labeled North as East

Those well traveled and versed in the texts of explorers of old know
That the assumed direction is not always the right way to go
Let your instincts and heart guide you through the gaps
The details are most useful if you have the right maps
