Here's my issue with that statement. If FF hid the treasure, then wrote the poem, & it took him 15 years to write it ... doesn't that mean the treasure was hidden 15 plus years before? How does that equate?

There's no issue with it - he is literally restating what is said in the poem, "As I have gone." He could have written the poem as "I will be/I am going alone in there."

He also stated: To answer some questions and save others from being asked, I did follow the clues in the poem when I hid the treasure chest, although I hid it before the poem was complete. (Completed?) f

Again, he could have followed the clues in the poem, but the poem wouldn't have been "completed" until he had officially "gone alone in there" to hide the chest.

Fourth Q & A with Forrest Fenn
No date

Q. When you wrote the poem, did you start with the first clue or the ninth?

A. ” I knew all along where I wanted to hide the treasure so I didn’t need a map or any information to write the poem. Everything was in my head. It took me a while to get the wording exactly how I wanted it. Counting the clues and hiding the chest came later. It is not likely that anyone will find it without following the clues, at least in their mind.”

So, there you go. He answered it both ways.

He wrote the poem after hiding the treasure, and he wrote the poem then counted clues and hid the treasure.

Go figure.

One time, when I was openly frustrated with him, I told him, “you can tell me if I’m wrong” and he said, “no, I can’t tell you if you’re wrong.” That didn’t help.
