Chasing Indy Breakthrough
For the first time since the end of The Chase, I believe that Candy has made the first real breakthrough as to the final location:

https://story.californiasunday.com/the-e...rest-fenn/

"Such ravages of time are often on his mind now that he’s nearing his 85th birthday, though Fenn remains matter-of-fact about the prospect of his days coming to an end. “If I get Alzheimer’s, I’m going to flag my calendar for six months from now and do it my own way,” he told me. “Hopefully at my last dying gasp I will still go back to that place and die at my favorite ...” He trailed off, perhaps wary of giving out a clue."

Note the last sentence about trailing off at the word favorite.

Fenn mentions the word favorite only twice in TTOTC: favorite fishing hole (page 121) and favorite soda (page 127). Connecting the two mentions of "favorite" something, this is why I still believe that his favorite fishing hole may have been somewhere along Soda Butte Creek or Slough Creek.

Given Shannon's (Odious Soul's) recent involvement, another angle is her video about Flywater, i.e., locate the Wyoming rivers in that book:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UO4LHQsTEY

From The New York Times:

"Hatch Master's Yellowstone Edition doesn't have the same quality of photography as Flywater, but it does offer a wealth of information about the Yellowstone area. Twenty-three fishing spots are listed here, including the Madison, the Firehole, Slough Creek..."

1. Madison
2. Firehole (Shannon even mentions "warm waters of the Firehole")
3. Slough Creek

Let's try and narrow down the fishing holes. Great job Chasing Indy!

If it's a fishing hole, I believe it's the homemade one he created in his backyard. He told me I was 6 feet from it, but then clarified that it wasn't actually closer than 12...the only time Forrest EVER could have known my exact location was at his house. Ever Ever Ever.

Soda Butte is an extinct geyser and Jack has stated a few times there is warm water actually present there - I'm pretty sure there is no warm water draining into Soda Butte Creek. And that's coming from the guy who made this: https://imgur.com/a/TAwETWl and this https://www.chasechat.com/showthread.php?tid=10131 and only searched that region.

Lamar Ranger Station is not the home of Brown based on Jack's statements. It must be present on a map and it is part of the geography of Wyoming - I'd presume it's a mountain/butte/peak (potentially higher than 10,200 feet because Jack won't answer if all clues are within 5,000 to 10,200 feet). Jack seems confident no one else got it so the presumption is it is not Brown Mountain.

Everything I've read points to the Madison and Firehole. Most of Fenn's dearest stories are that region (Western YNP) vs. one story about Slough Creek. There are only a finite number of warm water areas as shown on this map https://experience.arcgis.com/experience...7ccf0b18d7, and only a few which have all conditions presented in the poem (can go down canyon and away from Cody, road by feature, etc.). If you assume Jack and Fenn approached the spot from different directions (Bozeman vs. Cody), it'd probably be a dead end canyon/road.

Jack has confirmed the semi-colon connects two ideas and I think the poem paints the picture of what you're looking for - a river bend (oxbow) with a creek attached to it (towards end of oxbow - bend is ever drawing to an end) by your parking location which is down canyon from WWWH. The first two lines of that stanza refer to the river and second two lines refer to the creek.

Interesting...apparently Shiloh confirmed it was his favorite fishing hole...the one in his backyard.

And really, Forrest’s favorite fishing spot he’d only been to a few times? Does that make sense?

I remember my favorite fishing spot in Austin, Texas. My friends and I went there dozens of times. I’ve taken my family there once just to show them. It is indelible in my mind.

I don’t go for spoon feeding. If it’s not important enough to discuss, then it’s certainly not worth watching a video.
