Poem Punctuation
In the midst of the craziness this morning Bet mentioned ff had provided input re: the importance of the poem punctuation.

I know punctuation has been a previous topic of discussion but does anyone know of direct statements or hints from ff?

Double Negative Alert!!! Proceed with caution!! FD, don helmet and blinders!!

DaisyMae, I don't believe I've ever read or heard any punctuation details from Forrest, but that doesn't
mean they're not important. Forrest is aware of the details in his writing and knows the words he uses can be very telling. But in my opinion, the words and metaphors are the important factors in his poem. That's where the hard stuff is...the good details.

Right but decoding the poem (Fenn-speak) is sort of like decoding an ancient language. Cracking the key can require an understanding of grammatical relationships and punctuation can be like an internal map.

He's buried 8 bells. With clangers made from ships nails.

A ships bell is rung 8 times, one for each half hour of a 4 hour watch.

On-watch would ring it at
830
900
930
1000
1030
1100
1130
1200 watch change-out

If I'm on watch, what is the significance of a bell on the half-hour? Being a lazy-ass sailor I'd only be concerned with 8 bells, then I could go sleep, eat, call momma, whatever.

Among the Pythagoreans the number eight was esteemed as the first cube, being formed by the continued multiplication of 2 by 2 by 2, but the number nine was considered a fatal number and its square 81 was thought be even worse.

A correlation to the state of the chase.

Really? I've never seen punctuation that adequately conveys frustrated chaos
