Frosty the Ruler... What is Fenn measuring?

What is Fenn measuring when he states Frosty thought he was the Ruler?!
makes my mind wander here...

Polarity may be referencing a direction. I don't know. If you give Frosty an inch he thinks he's a ruler so if you give him an inch, he'll take a foot(12)

I've played around with some of the numbers in the book and in his public comments, but never really got anywhere conclusive with them, although I did find some interesting results. If these are real hints, they're too hard for me to figure out on my own, so maybe they'll help someone else.

Regarding Cloudcover's mention of "Polarity":

from Dal's website Forrest Comments on the Hunt

He uses the number 2.08555. It happens that 2.08555 x 10^7 (20,855,500) feet, or 6356.7564km is a really good approximation of the Polar radius of the earth.

In a similar vein, 66,000ft (yes feet, not links; I know he said links), is a very close approximation to 20,0000m which is apparently a common cruising altitude of a MiG-25 Foxbat. The MiG-25 was a state-of-the-art fighter jet that went in to service in 1970, around the time Mr. Fenn retired, but it's not much of a stretch to assume that he still had a great interest in emerging fighter jet technology at that time.

Edit to add: Also the "distance to horizon" at 66,000 feet (not accounting for topography and obstructions) is 315 miles. In the My War for Me chapter of TTOTC he uses the number 315 to specify the number of 500-lb bombs coming out of a B-52 during Operation Arc Light. What's peculiar about this number is that it is changed from the 324 he uses in another online version of the story here

Don't know what any of that means, if anything. I think there's a reasonable chance it's just distraction for the math geeks who overthink, like "two pi(es)" which can also be extracted directly from TTOTC.

I apologize, I misunderstood. I need to read before I open my mouth.

This story was when he was fired? For eating Pies? Maybe this will introduce the Pi calculation. Circles?
From the air, you can see big circles that kind of look like crop circles, and they are made from the big farm sprinklers i think. That may tell us that it is close to a farm or a "ranch". And that is why he is so consistent in saying the treasure is "hidden", because of "hidden" valley ranch. It is simple and easy, and if the treasure were on or very near a ranch, then it would fit perfectly, all while it being right under your nose.

The movies "signs" may have some clues too. Joquin Phoenix and Mel Gibson are in there along with a Culkin boy.
Mel gibson =brave and in the wood
Joaquin Phoenix= Blaze
Culkin= Alone, but indirectly to "home alone"

Just a few thoughts.

Do you not see it? After explaining it, it's used and capitalized, IMHO just as Brown is... So,.......that just by itself doesn't tell you much..... is there more?

@glock20 - I agree that it is a pun ... but an important one that I cannot explain either. Remember in "Important Literature" page 14, 1st paragraph, FF wrote the quote "To the Caliph I am dirt, but to the dirt I am a Caliph"? I had to look up the word caliph, & it means ruler. So there's another instance of FF driving that point home to us.

And wasn't there a ruler in one of FF's scrapbook entries? In a picture? Was it the tangled phone cord one or maybe the envelope one to Mr. Puceet? Maybe not unusual, but worth mentioning.

that story appeared else where in 2008, in some west Yellowstone paper. ff, called Frosty, Old Fred in that edition, (not Frosty at all) and no mention of the Ruler. And even the lady had a name, Mary.
