I saw only a tiny hint. Not a clue. A hint is only capable
of confirming a good existing solve of one or more clues,

Upon looking through this post I see that no one ever brought up what a ten cent yoyo might look like. Gives new meaning to "in the wood".

What is 1/2 of a 10 cent yo-yo? 5 cents, yo.

C'mon, people, that's funny!
Forrest made his own Yo-Yos. In the story Forrest said he rub two rocks together would indicate to me that the only place that fits this description is fault lines like found in Yellowstone National park
Fenn's new book seems to mention "fault lines" and "Once in a while I do something right". Seems odd that he would mention fault lines specifically unless he's talking about Yellowstone area.

RE: 10 cent yoyo for New Mexico.
Rio Grande is largest in NM. About 123 faults in New Mexico, many in Colorado, most in Wyoming and a few in Montana.
The entire region is riddled with fault zones. Look for rock that is vertically sticking out of the ground.
just saying ss
