Sucker Bet……….. “The house doesn't beat the player. It just gives him the opportunity to beat himself.”

I’ve never met Fenn, but all this gambling talk reminds me of someone that I did know who very much reminds me of Fenn…….Tom Preston (Amarillo Slim), I called a bet he made me once.

I don't gamble. Casinos are for suckers. Last time I was in one was because I really really had to go to the bathroom while driving through Northern New Mexico and the Navajo Casino was the only place available. I was in there for maybe 10 minutes, and stunk of cigarette smoke for the rest of the day. Casinos are miserable places full of losers. I'm with Deb, I'll be out in the fresh air searching for the treasure while you are playing your game of chance.

NTMI....you are being positive at the risk of being ostracized. Thanks for your support.(the quote is intended for others, not you)

mdavis19 and deb... "Life is a game of poker"....remember? You two can visualize too well. Put your "opponent" and table next to your waterfall and glen. If you approach this in a humble way and don't beat up on people and say please and thank you and sorry; you probably won't be bellying-up. This is for people who are either humbly sure of something or arrogantly superior. If takes some honesty to figure out whether you fit into one of those groups. There are usually a bunch of spectators behind the real players....take your spots and enjoy the drama! And try to be positive.

I've offered bets before. People tend to get very angry about it for some reason. I think I'd be willing to bet that I have a 1% chance of finding the chest by Dec. 31 2014. That is, I pay you $1 if I don't find the chest by then and you pay me $100 if I do. I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to cover, somewhere between $100 and $1000. Given the history of the search I would say this is a very good bet for anyone who took it. It's hard to get 1% interest right now. My wife would probably give me what for if she heard me offer this. The problem is that we don't have a house to hold the money. I don't know if there's any way for internet strangers to conduct a safe bet. SOmeone must have done it but I haven't given it much thought.

Goofy...

I'm not following. The house is not involved in the bet. The wager is between one's superior mind and the inferior mind of your opponent. The chances of going home with one's opponents money are inversely proportional to the size of one's ego. I have been on this site long enough to tire of the superior egos who saunter into the room mouthing-off but unwilling to belly-up. As I said, there is at least one other person who might approach the table; quietly and humbly. I don't do math but I think this only works in groups of two.

Rick, what if the gamble quote doesnt mean what you think? You are basing your assumption on the idea we are playing poker.Maybe we arent all playing the same game? You can think others are arrogant or you can stop making assumptions and look deeper.
Shhh they aren't listening.

I see what you mean Rick………All hat and no cattle……Battleship mouths and rowboat butts.

It does get tiresome listening to all the “I figured it out claims”; especially the ones with the inflated egos. Some do it out of pure excitement, it seems they are just busting at the seams to tell someone. You wouldn’t believe how many solutions people have sent me out of the blue.

Some of the searchers have made considerable bets in that it gets expensive traveling to search. Interesting that most of them aren’t the ones making the boisterous claims.

lol Thats a game to goad others into disclosing what they know. Sorry guys you can make as much noise as you want, doesnt make you any more correct than anyone else. Dont expect others to view the world in the same manner you do. I take it your way of thinking is the one and only trail to the treasure? I dont think the way you do, never will.

When you label your post about crushing your opponent, its obvious its bait.
Shhh they aren't listening.
