Yep, he's earned that right. I won't even try and argue that life would be easier without the crazies ringing his door bell at 1am because it's his chase. But the chest would be toxic in the future if it was revealed that you had it and so I would return all collectibles and only keep the gold. That would satisfy my own need for a second place finisher to forgive my not revealing the find. The chest and collectible items are still worth a lot.

I could not and would not take the entire chest and skip leaving a great second prize because that is cruel to all. (in the case where I don't reveal the find.)

I've been fishing over 40 years. If somebody takes you to a secret spot you don't go back unless that person invites you. You don't tell others about the spot and you don't go back without permission. Keeping this place a secret will not be a problem (for me) and I figure it's the least we can do. I also want zero publicity Fenn can have it and notify whoever he needs to tell.

I feel no compulsion to relinquish anything, but that does not mean I never would. I would try not to, but circumstances might dictate otherwise.

You never know how you will react to a situation until faced with it, and there is no way to foresee the exact conditions surrounding one. People say things. Talk is cheap. The ones who say, "I would do this!", or, "I would never do that!" have limited life experience despite what they think of themselves and are the ones most likely to crack under pressure or make the worst choice based on previously decided action.
